In 1989, Shaheed Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto visited the site and activated the efforts to develop the Hill resort, but due to dismissal of the government, project remained abandoned till 1993
In 1997-98, the construction of road from Wahi Pandhi to Gorakh (54 Kms) was started which is yet to be completed, in 2006-07, Water Supply and electricity facilities were provided to some extent but most of the work on the project has remained abandoned which is expected to be resumed in present tenure of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian.
Millions of rupees have been spent so far to develop the only hill station of Sindh, funds have been released for plantation of trees, construction of road and other basic facilities, that have been mismanaged widely, and this carelessness has kept the hill station and the area underdeveloped for many years.
Tourism is one of the best sources of revenue for a country, and God has blessed Pakistan with such exotic and rare natural beauty; unfortunately, Government has badly failed to develop such beautiful places.
The Government should take interest and take quick and sincere initiative to start developing work on Gorakh hill station, and get it accomplished as soon as possible to attract foreign and local tourists which would, surely, contribute towards betterment of the Economy. All fundamental needs and facilities such as wide and straight roads, cheap and quality public transport, 5 Star hotels, motels, chair lifts, zoos, and parks, etc ought to be provided. There is an utmost need for a market like Murree’s Mall Road, a residential area, an educational institute, and a mountain safari, it will attract more tourists. A website containing comprehensive information about the hill site is also essential, in this way, we can develop our tourism industry and can generate an income of millions of rupees annually.
People come from all over the country for picnicking on this resort, families take their luggage, tents, edibles for recreation; at night tourists gather kindling to enjoy bonfire, they sit around, have gossips and a lot of unending fun.
