Indian special court in Lukhnow, announced its verdict about 16th-century mosque of Mughal-era named after Mughal Emperor Babar, acquitting all the accused including BJP leaders; former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, former Ministers Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiyar, and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh.

The Supreme Court of India last year in its verdict had termed the demolition of Babri mosque a criminal act and an egregious violation of rule of law but at the same time, it awarded the mosque site to Hindus and ordered the Indian government to allot two acres of land to Muslims somewhere else. Now the Special Court has given a controversial verdict mentioning the lack of evidence.

All the 7000 documents, 850 witnesses, hundreds of photographs, and footages were presented in the court but no one was held responsible and it was said by the court that “the act of demolishing Babri mosque was not pre-planned, it was a spontaneous act committed by unidentified persons.”

The Mughal-era Babri mosque was attacked and destroyed by thousands of RSS-led Hindu nationalists mobs, some groups of them climbed the mosque and started tearing it down in the presence of State’s Law enforcement agencies and local police.

“I was an eyewitness to all that happened while demolishing Babri mosque in 1992, on that day, I was on the terrace with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders like Lal Krishna Adwani, Uma Bharti, Mohan Bhagwat, Murli Manohar Joshi, and several others,” Senior Indian journalist Ruchira Gupta told Al Jazeera.

Another eyewitness a photographer Pravin Jatin said that these people were deliberately enticing crowds to destroy the mosque, they kept chanting slogans ‘give one push and demolish the mosque’. On that day, LK Advani had been announcing on the microphone that security forces should not be allowed near the mosque. According to him, CBI never asked him to testify which further confirms that the decision was planned before.

On December 6, 1992, a large number of Hindu extremist group backed by the BJP government took out a rally towards the site of Babri mosque where they turned violent as a part of their plan, badly damaged the mosque that caused a long-standing clash between Hindus and Muslims of India, approximately 2000 people were killed, most of them belonged to the Muslims.

Over 200 million Muslims are living in India but they have always been looked upon as an inferior and detestable class of citizens. Indian Muslims are murdered on keeping cows and eating their meat by Hindu extremist groups’ activists but like the case of Ayodhya, the culprits were never punished for such heinous acts. Muslims in India were blamed for spreading Novel Coronavirus when Muslims attended some routine religious gatherings in Delhi. But Hindus who organized multiple larger gatherings in the country and were never blamed or discouraged. The BJP government has a history of political, religious, and social injustice and inequality; Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put fuel on already-blazing flames of religious hatred in the country.

The Indian Prime Minister, politically-affiliated with BJP, Narendra Modi broke the ground at the site of Babri mosque for starting construction of the Ram temple on August 5, this year. The temple work was said to be completed within three and a half years.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmaker Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani and the patron-in-chief of Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC), said the supreme court in Pakistan gives verdict on the rights of the country’s minorities, whereas, the Indian Supreme Court is going to construct a temple after demolishing a mosque. He said that it was a wrong decision to construct a temple at the site of Babri Masjid and condemned the verdict of acquitting all involved BJP leaders.

Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned the acquittal of all the accused in the historical Babri Mosque case by an Indian special court, terming it a “shameful” verdict.

“Pakistan strongly condemns today’s shameful acquittal of the criminals responsible for demolishing the Mughal-era Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992,” said the country’s Foreign Ministry Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a statement.

Centuries-old Babri mosque demolished by RSS-inspired BJP-led Hindu extremists

“The decision of acquittal on the three-decades-old case tells the world that the Hindutva-inspired Indian judiciary badly failed to deliver the justice again," the foreign ministry said.

This is yet another manifestation of the pliant judiciary under the extremist BJP-RSS regime in which extremist ‘Hindutva’ ideology takes precedence over all principles of justice and international norms. A wrong direction was earlier set by the Indian Supreme Court’s partisan verdict last year by handing over the Babri Masjid premises for the building of Ram Mandir to the very Hindu parties which had demolished the historic mosque. The acquittal today is even against that verdict which had noted that the demolition was “an egregious violation of rule of law.”

Pakistan Foreign Ministry statement further said that “The RSS-BJP regime and the Sangh Parivar are responsible for the continued desecration and demolition of mosques in India in an organized manner as they did during the Gujarat massacre of 2002 and Delhi pogrom in 2020. The attacks by Hindu zealots on places of worship of Muslims have continued even during the Covid-19 pandemic. Encouraged by the flawed Ayodhya verdict, Hindu zealots supported by their RSS-patrons in power, are now seeking removal of the Shahi Eidgah Masjid located next to Krishna Temple in Mathura as well as to give ownership of the entire 13.37 acres of land to the Krishna Temple complex.

Pakistan urges the Indian government to ensure safety, security, and protection of minorities, particularly Muslims and their places of worship and other Islamic sites on which the Hindu extremists and zealots have laid claims.”
