In response to Pakistan's peace initiatives, India's response came negatively, India, without informing Pakistan Government before taking action, closed the flow of water towards Pakistan. The water flows from three Eastern Rivers: The Ravi, The Sutlej, and The Beyas; have been halted by India Government following the effective retaliation by Pakistan Air Force to Its air violation.
Speaking to reporters on March 10, Mr. Meghwal, Indian Minister of State for Water Resources, said that 0.53 million acre-feet water of Eastern rivers, which was flowing into Pakistan, had been stopped and stored, which would be used for irrigation and drinking purposes in Rajasthan, India. According to the Indian stance, they have stopped the flow of their share which does not violate any Treaty and India is entitled to use that water under the Indus Water Treaty 1960.
A Pakistani official said, as per the Indus Waters Treaty 1960, India can not stop water flow to Pakistan, the statement of the counterpart is based on falsehood. This matter will be taken up to the International Court of Arbitration very soon. An official of the Permanent Commission for Indus Waters said that " India had continuously been involved in water aggression".
